If you send a customer a $7000 hip positioner instead of a $7 hip positioner pad will that cause some problems? You bet. That was the type of situation Innovative Medical Products (IMP), a Connecticut based medical device manufacturer and distributor can now avoid.
“We have a lot of products that have similar names. We were having errors such as when a customer would order a hip position pad (1092P), and we would actually ship the hip positioner product (1092), and the difference is about $7,000.00.” says Rich Larkin, Director of Operations.
What helped them solve this problem? IMP installed Microsoft Dynamics GP and SalesPad Data Collection with handheld barcode scanners for picking items in the warehouse.
What was the result?
“It has helped us improve productivity immensely, especially with error control. With the barcode system there is very little chance of error. With Dynamics GP we have increased our order accuracy from approximately 85% to 98.5%,” says Larkin.
